In the aftermath of the tragedy at the Bataclan concert hall in Paris in November, gunmen invaded a rock concert in Las Vegas in December and killed 58 people in the worst mass shooting in modern U.S. history. In February, some of those who survived the Bataclan attack held a concert of their own, followed by the cancellation of their tour dates. “It’s difficult,” Christoph, one of the survivors, told BuzzFeed News. “I have the shock of the first attack, then I have to go on tour.”
The Bataclan attack sent shockwaves through the world of music, forcing artists to think about the consequences of going on tour — and returning to their homes. As one of the organizers of the “Bataclan Paris: Once More With Feeling” show on Jan. 14, Christoph was interviewed on French TV after the event, and he reflected on the aftermath of the attack and his own recovery. He was in Paris on Nov. 13 for a listening party for his latest album, “Pompeii,” and he said that at first he thought that what happened at the Bataclan “was the last word.” “But we know that nothing is certain,” he said. Christoph, whose real name is François-Xavier Motte, is part of a French trio called Infiniti. He and two of his friends, Didier D’autretemps and Antoine Favier, are part of a trio called Gazebo, which consists of Infiniti and a third member, Sébastien Foucan. “Bataclan Paris: Once More With Feeling” was just the first in a new concert series they are starting to organize in France.
